Fascinated by Forties LA
Am reading an intriguing book called 'The Black Dahlia Files'.
It's about the gruesome murder of Elizabeth 'Black Dahlia' Short in Los Angeles in 1947 (you might remember James Ellroy's 'based on' book which was made into a big budget flick a few years back).
Taking in tales of a 'crooked' LAPD as well as notorious gang-banger types like Bugsy Siegel, Jack Dragna and Mickey Cohen it paints a fascinating picture of life in 'The City of the Angels' back in the day.
I've downloaded music tracks from 40's staples such as Jo Stafford, Vaughn Monroe, Ted Weems, Frankie Laine, Perry Como and Freddy Martin to enhance the reading experience.
